Week 6 Reflection
This week I attended a professional development workshop focused on AI in the classroom, and it was actually really interesting to revisit this topic after some of our earlier class discussions. We talked about a mix of things like privacy, environmental impacts, and how AI might realistically be used in schools going forward.
One thing that stood out to me was the idea that AI and media literacy could become part of standardized testing in the future. The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) currently focuses on things like math, science, and reading, but there are plans to expand into AI literacy by 2029. That honestly feels pretty important, especially considering how fast technology is changing. It made me think about how schools will need to adapt, not just in what we teach, but how we teach it.

Another part I liked was being introduced to Focused Education AI student lessons, which are organized by grade level. They seemed especially useful for elementary students, but I’d be curious to see how well they translate to secondary classrooms. It feels like resources like this could help teachers guide students in using AI as a tool, instead of just relying on it.
Questions to think about How can schools teach AI literacy without encouraging over-reliance on it? Do you think AI should be included in standardized testing, or is it too early?
