Free Inquiry Project

For my weekly free inquiry, I decided to start learning how to juggle. Juggling is a skill I’ve always found interesting but never taken the time to properly learn, and it feels like a good mix of coordination and patience. Juggling works well with the idea of the free inquiry project, as it’s a long-term learning goal and not something I think I’ll master in a few days!

I chose juggling because I wanted to challenge myself with a skill that requires consistency rather than strength or speed. I also like that juggling is portable and can be practiced almost anywhere with minimal equipment. Learning a new physical skill feels refreshing, especially compared to any form of screen-based learning, and I’m curious to see how my progress changes over time.

My initial goal for this inquiry is to successfully juggle three objects for at least 30 seconds without dropping them. Along the way, I also want to improve my hand-eye coordination and build comfort with failing and restarting, since juggling involves a lot of mistakes before things start to click. Another goal is to maybe reflect on how repetition and movement impact my learning process, in other words, how well I improve with consistent practice every other day.

To support my learning, I plan to use a mix of online resources and personal practice. I’ll likely start with beginner juggling tutorials on YouTube, such as the introductory video to three-ball juggling linked below, and maybe some written step-by-step guides for beginner juggling. I may also track my progress by videoing my practice and or timing and writing down how long I can juggle for in a row, with a short journal on how I felt during the practice.

I may also link past blog posts as ways to show how my juggling skills develop over time and reflect on challenges and successes as they happen. By combining written reflection, multimedia, and linked resources, I hope to clearly document both my learning process and my growth throughout this inquiry.

Please join me and follow along in my journey. Feel free to link any videos or tips that may have helped you learn to juggle below in the reply/comment section.

How long do you think it will take me to master this skill? Or will I come close to mastery at all?
