Free Inquiry Project 2

For my free inquiry project, I’m continuing to work on learning how to juggle, and this week felt like a small but important breakthrough. I was starting to get pretty frustrated using balls because everything felt rushed and out of control. A friend suggested I try using scarves or even plastic bags, since they float way longer in the air. Honestly, this made a huge difference right away.

Using scarves has been a major stepping stone for me. Because they fall so slowly, I’ve been able to actually focus on the motion of throwing and catching instead of just reacting. I started by practicing with two scarves, getting comfortable with the pattern, and then slowly began building up to three total. It’s definitely still messy, but it finally feels like something is starting to click.

This has been a great initial building block and makes juggling feel way more approachable than jumping straight into balls. It also helped me realize how important timing and consistency really are.

Next week, I want to record myself as a baseline so I can compare it later and actually see how much I improve by the end of this inquiry. I think it’ll be motivating (and probably a little embarrassing), but worth it.

Have you ever used an easier or modified version of a skill to help you learn the basics?

Do you think starting with scarves or plastic bags instead of balls is “cheating,” or just smart learning?
